Clinic of Surgery

The Clinic of surgery of the Republican Medical Center “Armenia” works since 1970, is the clinical part of the Department of Surgery 1, Yerevan State Medical University. The clinic has two departments – I and II surgical department. Approximately 2000 planned and urgent interventions per year performed, skilled medical care provide the service of anesthesiology and intensive care.

Firstly in Armenia in our clinic were performed formation of a portocaval anastomosis for the treatment of portal hypertension /Prof. Apoyan V. T., 1992./, extirpation of the esophagus and replacement with stomach /Prof. Apoyan V. T., 1995./, used and suggested antihelmintic medication for the treatment and prevention of echinococcosis /Prof. Apoyan V. T., 1997./. In 2000 in our clinic started laparoscopic surgery /Prof. Oganesyan S. S., Sargsyan D. A., Oganesyan S. S./.

In our clinic firstly in Armenia were performed laparoscopic operations for acute adhesive small bowel obstructions /Assoc. prof. Stepanyan S. A., 2009/ and perforated duodenal ulcer /Assoc. prof. Stepanyan S. A., 2010/, as well as laparoscopic total extraperitoneal (TEP) repair of inguinal hernias with self-fixating meshes Swing-Contact /Assoc. prof. Stepanian S. A., 2014/.

Surgical clinic collaborates with leading medical centers in Germany, Austria, Russia. After training in this clinics our surgeons perform open and laparoscopic procedures for gallstone disease, hernias, echinococcosis, tumors of the digestive tract and its complications, diseases of liver, pancreas, thyroid gland, parathyroid glands, adrenal glands.

Firstly in Armenia in our clinic implemented 24-hour pH-monitoring and impedansometry that are important examinations for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the esophagus and stomach.
