Dermatology Life Quality Index

The most commonly met skin diseases are allergic dermatoses and chronic diseases of unknown origin, such as allergic and atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema, etc.

All of these diseases have significant impact on the life quality of the patient, causing him not only physical but also psychological discomfort.

Any skin related problem may cause difficulties in communication, decrease self esteem, which in turn may lead to depression and psychoses.

Dermatologists use the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) to assess the negative impact of skin diseases on various aspects of patient’s life, describing the quality of his life in general. DLQI Index was developed by the specialists of the University of Wales (copyrights belong to AY Finlay, Gk Khan, April 1992).

DLQI index can be used as a criterion for evaluating the effectiveness of the treatment of skin diseases.

The DLQI Index questionnaire is designed for patients over the age of 16. The questions of DLQI questionnaire are addressed directly to patient; therefore it should be answered by him.
